Privacy Policy

for the TheHold app (iPhone & Apple Watch) · Last updated: 13 October 2026

Your privacy matters. TheHold is a breathing-training app, built so that essentially no personal data is sent to us as the provider: your practice and health data stay on your device or within your personal Apple environment (Apple Health, iCloud) and are not accessible to us.

We operate no servers of our own, use no tracking, no advertising and no analytics SDKs, and we never sell data.

3. Health data (Apple HealthKit)

With your explicit permission, TheHold can access Apple Health:

This health data is processed solely on-device and stored in Apple Health. It is not transmitted to us or any third party and is never used for advertising. You can revoke Health access at any time under iOS Settings → “Privacy & Security → Health”. Our use of HealthKit follows Apple’s requirements.

4. iCloud sync (optional)

If you enable “iCloud Sync”, your practice data is stored in your private iCloud (Apple CloudKit) so it stays available across your devices and can be restored after reinstalling. This data resides in your personal Apple account; we have no access to it. iCloud is provided by Apple; see Apple’s Privacy Policy. You can turn sync off in the app settings.

5. Reminders (local notifications)

If you enable the daily reminder, the app schedules a local notification on your device. No data is sent to us for this.

6. Purchases and subscriptions

The one-time purchase and the subscription are handled entirely by Apple’s App Store / StoreKit system. We do not receive payment or billing details; we only see anonymised or aggregated sales information from Apple. Apple’s privacy terms apply to payment processing.

7. Legal bases (GDPR)

8. Disclosure to third parties

We do not disclose any personal data. The technical services Apple Health, iCloud and the App Store are provided by Apple Inc. / Apple Distribution International Ltd. Details: Apple Privacy.

9. Retention

Local data remains stored until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. iCloud data remains until you delete it or disable iCloud sync. Health data is managed in Apple Health.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Because we do not store any personal data about you ourselves, you can control your data directly: via the app (delete entries), iOS Settings (Health permission), Apple Health and your iCloud account. For questions, contact us at jkornbrodt@gmail.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

11. Children

TheHold is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

12. Changes

We may update this privacy policy as the app or the legal situation changes. The version published here at the time applies.

Note: TheHold is not a medical device and does not replace professional medical advice. Never perform breath-hold exercises in or near water or while driving.
